40: How fast through a tunnel?

Problem: maximum speeds in tunnels do not seem to make a lot of sense. A short straight tunnel usually has the same or almost the same speed limit as a long curvy tunnel.

Obviously tunnels belong to the most hazardous road stretches' available; nevertheless drivers do not understand this inconsistency

Moreover, doing 100km/h instead of the usual 80 km/h will surely not lead to more accidents.

Solution: Assess the maximum speed of each tunnel individually. People will understand and comply to a low speed if the tunnel physically does not allow for it.

However slowing down from 140 km/h to 80 km/h just to drive 50 meters through a short straight doesn't feel right.
